About this collection

20 editable paint and coating smart materials, numbered 56–75, exclusively for Materials+ subscribers.

Includes gloss, metallic, pearlescent, candy and matte automotive paint; gray and zinc primers; industrial safety, reflective and fluorescent paint; hammered, wrinkle and powder finishes; spray paint and graffiti; faded metal paint, peeling wall paint, cracked lacquer, high-gloss lacquer and matte lacquer.

Each material includes eight 2K PBR maps: full-color Base Color, Roughness, Metallic, Normal, Height, AO, Emission and Opacity, plus a paint coverage mask. Eight master controls adjust paint coverage, pigment tint, roughness, relief, pattern scale, edge exposure, recess deposits and dust or runoff. Native editable layers expose steel or plaster, accumulate protected grime, and add orientation-aware dust.

Bake Normal, AO, Curvature and World Normal before applying. Graffiti-Covered Paint, Faded Painted Metal and Peeling Wall Paint also require Position. Composed normal anchors drive downstream wear and cavity effects. Destination normals rebind automatically when you rebake.

Install with Open Painter Connect and find the materials in the Smart Materials library. Requires Open Painter 0.12.3 or later. Downloaded separately; not included with the free addon.

These are authored RGB PBR materials with imagegen color sources resampled from 1254 pixels to 2K. Specialty optics are approximations: pearl does not simulate spectral color travel, candy does not use a separate absorbing paint volume, reflective paint does not simulate retroreflection, and fluorescent paint does not simulate UV excitation or glow. All materials are non-emissive. Clearcoat uses the same texture-set surface controls as bundled materials. See the included README for map conventions, physical scales and shader limits.
